For Dr. Lyndsay Hayhurst, participatory action research has been a fundamental feature of her work since she began building her expertise in gender-focused sport for development and peace. In this recent project, Dr. Hayhurst and her collaborators partnered with a local non-governmental organization (NGO) working on a program in rural Nicaragua designed to avert gender-based, sexual and domestic violence for young girls and women through sport (football). A total of 18 young women between the ages of 14 and 19 years took digital photos to explain their experiences in the program, and to provide insights into how the program influenced their day-to-day lives.
